How about a holiday home from which you can see in the distance the famous silhouette of the medieval town of San Gimignano with its family towers?
This spacious holiday apartment is located on a hill in the municipality of Certaldo and impresses above all with its panoramic location. The view sweeps over vineyards, olive groves, meadows and fields to the foothills of the Apennines, the Monti Pistoiesi. It is part of a farm that produces excellent organic olive oil, which has already won several awards.
The owner Signora Emma lives on the ground floor of the house and welcomes the holidaymakers with great cordiality. Together with her son Matteo, who lives in the former barn, she organizes Tuscan dinners, cooking classes (she cooks really fantastic!), olive oil tastings or tours to the winemakers in the area. With her, the guests learn everything there is to know about the history and flora of the territory.
If you want to relax, you can do it in and around the pool (15m x 5m), which is located on a higher level of the garden. In the evening you can experience spectacular sunsets from the covered veranda or from the living room with its panoramic windows.
In addition, due to its central location, the apartment Casa Pietraia is ideal for making many excursions in the area.
The town of Certaldo (approx. 10 km away) is certainly not one of the most famous places in Tuscany, but its origins go back to the times of the Etruscans. The higher part of the city - Certaldo Alto - is the historical center. It is here that one of the most important writers and humanists of the early Renaissance - Giovanni Boccaccio - was born. His masterpiece is The Decameron. Towards the end of his life he settled in Certaldo and was later buried there, which, unlike his birth, is historically documented.
As I said, San Gimignano is very close by. It is only 17 km away. It is approx. 41 km to Florence, approx. 42 km to Siena, 87 km to Pisa, approx. 45 km to Volterra and approx. 90 km to Lucca.
For shopping you can go to Barberino Val d’Elsa (approx. 6 km). Emma and Matteo of course give tips on how to find good restaurants nearby.

Matteo and his family offer their guests cooking classes, olive oil and wine tastings, Tuscan dinners, breakfast service, organization of day trips with transfer (9-seater minibus) to the interesting towns and villages in the area, trekking trips, cycling tours, horseback riding, massages and yoga courses.
